Every professional is driven by something in their career, such as job advancements, family, financial security, etc. They have a goal in mind and do anything to make that happen.

The same goes for entrepreneurs.

An entrepreneur has an idea and invests in it, both emotionally and financially, without fearing the outcome. This makes us think they’re determined people with iron wills and extraordinary work ethics, but are they all the same? Is this definition right?

This article will look at these questions and other assumptions to see what’s true and what might just be a myth.

Trait #1: Staying Focused on the Goal

We have all heard the quote, “If you’re the smartest person in the room, it’s time to leave the room”. The effect of the people we surround ourselves with is enormous. Over time, we pick up their habits, expressions, and even work ethic.

When we surround ourselves with people who don’t share the same ambitions and goals as we do, it’s not long before we’re distracted from our determination, hard work, and dedication. We’re creatures of habits, so, inevitably, this can happen.

The important thing is to stay focused and work towards your goals.

Trait #2: They Are a People Person

A vital personality trait of entrepreneurs is that they’re good with people.

What does that mean?

There are active and passive methods in networking, and active networking can be a massive game-changer. The founder of BNI, one of the most prominent business networking organisations in the world, Dr Ivan Misner, stated that “actively networking with others means you invite those people to one or more of the networking organisations you belong to, carry several of their business cards with you all the time, and above all, refer them whenever you have an opportunity to do so. Active networking also means having a reciprocal relationship with others.” (Read more in his article What Is ‘Active’ Networking.)

Paired with active networking, entrepreneurs expand their presence with people who have similar ambitions and exciting ideas. You never know what will come from a discussion with someone and what business ideas will open many doors. You might end up meeting someone whose knowledge and experience can contribute to your business. However, that’s the fun part for entrepreneurs!

Being a people person also means being there for your people. Listen to their needs and be reliable, caring, and responsible. Successful entrepreneurs know how to do this because they’re part of your business support system. It’s not a given talent; it comes from being willing to achieve the best for them and your business.

Trait #3: Choosing to Say Goodbye to the Comfort Zone

Getting out of one’s comfort zone is one of the hardest things to do. You know it must be done, but it’s hard to bring yourself to do it because it can get unfamiliar or inconvenient. You likely set up new routines strictly, but these qualities do not define an entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurs know the importance of being flexible. The world of entrepreneurship doesn’t leave space for a comfort zone. When an opportunity presents itself, go and get it.

Sound easier said than done? Taking risks is not an easy task, and implementing it as a part of your personality traits can be tricky. However, it carves your path to success because sticking with the known and disassociating with the unknown doesn’t get you far. Entrepreneurs figured this out a long time ago.

To equip yourself more before stepping out of your comfort zone, learn about taking calculated risks. Forbes published an excellent article on it in 2020; you may want to check that out.

Trait #4: Having Character Built on Perseverance and Diligence

Entrepreneurship isn’t a smooth journey. When trying something new, especially a new business idea, it’s inevitable to hit some rocks along the way. Your hard work isn’t appreciated or rewarded with success, people let you down, and things don’t go how you want them to. How does having character come into play?

What you’re built of will save you and your business.

None of those hurdles stop you if you have a strong mind and know what you want. Being stubborn in the good ways pays off in the entrepreneurship world.

Be stubborn about making your ideas take flight, about seeing your projects succeed and win that deal with the client. Be stubborn to make every “no” or every “maybe” into “absolutely yes”.

Even though stubbornness can seem like a flaw, it’s a game-changing personality trait in business. If you study the character of many entrepreneurs, most are simply hard-working people who choose not to give up. It’s not a surprise to hear about a failed business idea because they fail all the time, but they’re willing to rekindle it again and again.

This is one trait entrepreneurs seem to share, their willingness to keep learning comes from thinking there’s no shame in trying again. The shame lies in giving up when you know you have what it takes. As the saying goes, “Lose the battle, win the war”!

Trait #5: Knowing All Their “Why”s

Having a purpose directs your journey and sets your path the right way. It always reminds you why you’re doing what you’re doing. It takes great passion to never abandon your goal. When your hard work comes from passion, it makes everything better.

Entrepreneurs have a solid reason that keeps them going. When you’re passionate about your work, you don’t fear failures. You take risks, all while knowing that someday you’ll achieve what you were meant to achieve.

Be motivated by the thought that being an entrepreneur is like being on a mission. This trait emphasises whether people believe in you and your ideas or not, you’ll stay true to yourself. Nobody knows how you came to be where you are right now. Have confidence in yourself and your goals.

This trait is common among entrepreneurs; they know why they set out on their journey. They know they can turn failure into strength as long as they keep going.

Personality Traits Are Determinants of Success

In conclusion, entrepreneurs have many similarities in their ways, personalities, and character. The journey of entrepreneurship is challenging, but it becomes easier with passion and good work ethics.

Entrepreneurs know their way around, how to communicate, and be there for people. When they decide to become entrepreneurs, they leave their comfort zones. Entrepreneurs know how to use work ethic to succeed, which means sticking to things no matter how many stumbling blocks they hit.

Nothing distracts an entrepreneur who has set their eyes on the prize. They owe it to their passion.

If entrepreneurship is what you seek, claim your place and remember that the world belongs to those who dare.
